For the Love of Our Appearance

Appearance is everything. It dominates our everyday lives, we are constantly aware of how we look, mindful of the things that we wear and the way in which we will be thought of and represented simply due to our appearance. The level of effort and time we take to look a certain way will be clear to those around us and we will almost be thought of in a higher manner if we are presentable, fashionable and what we each consider to be ‘pretty’.

Society, with the help of the media, places a large amount of emphasis on appearance and it places a great deal of pressure on each of us to conform to the desired look. We all rely so heavily on clothes, beauty products make up, these are the tools we use to transform the natural us into things of beauty and style. There is little regard for the idea of natural beauty, this is no longer the desired look, all of our features are heightened with make up or even cosmetic surgery that we strongly believe improves the features that we already have or adds the ones that we were lacking.

We all go above and beyond to look our very best whether it is consulting a plastic surgeon or a dental implant specialist to mimic the looks that are favoured by those we hold in high esteem.

Celebrities are the ones we tend to strive to look like, whether it is their dress sense, the brands that they wear, hairstyles or actual physical features. The view we have of celebrities and their appearance is unrealistic as teams of make up artists surround them and hairdressers, their photographs are airbrushed and it is their job to look perfect at all times. This is something we simply cannot keep up with and no matter how much time and money we spend it is not practical to be so entirely devoted to our looks when we have an everyday life to lead.

We all have very specific views on what we consider to be beautiful that are strongly supported by the culture and lifestyle we all prefer. Plastic surgery is now no longer a unique thing that is only undergone by the rich and famous, it is now far more accessible to the everyday person and the number of procedures that are taking place is soaring as we dedicate ourselves to looking beautiful, slim, with big hair and perfect make up and just the right facial features and physical attributes. Every part of our bodies can easily be transformed to be perfectly chiselled, adjusted in terms of placement, increased or decreased, there are whole ranges of different procedures that will allow a person to become someone else almost overnight.

Sometimes, in a rare case, procedures take place for something more than just purely appearance-based reasons. Procedures may be a necessity due to medical complaint, discomfort or leading to a future problem. There is no real harm in having medical, surgical or dental procedures done as long as though they are done for the right reasons, discussed and well thought through.

The desire to look good is essential and there are tools and means and people out there that are able to help as long as you are attempting to create a realistic view of yourself.

Mistura Beauty: Your Makeup Life Simplified!

I'm not much of a girly girl. I don't usually wear dresses, and my hair is somewhat short, but I do love playing around with make-up. Playing with make-up and trying new products are fun, but when I'm in a hurry I want something quick. Mistura Beauty Solutions is that type of make-up product. It's my new every day routine when I get ready for work, with instant results in one easy step.

Mistura's revolutionary 6-in-1 Beauty Solution offers a single shade formula for all skin types and colors. Their motto is "beauty simplified", and it truly is. If you're able to apply it and see instant results, it's one less thing you have to worry about.

I received The Essential Kit, which contains: one mini compact of the 6-in-1 Beauty Solution, one mini Kabuki brush, one sample of Luminada (moisturizer), and one vitamin E lip treatment. I originally didn't think this product would work on my skin. I have fair skin, as well as dry due to my medical condition. I was amazed at how this product actually matched my skin tone. When I looked at the Beauty Solution color, I assumed since it's a fairly dark shade, that it wouldn't match my fair skin tone. I have to say wow... it actually looks natural and flawless. It literally took me less then a minute to apply the products, so I'm super impressed. It left my skin with a airbrush type finish, it evened out the tone of my skin and left me with a glow.

Interested in getting some Mistura products? Of course you are! Click here to grab yours today. Interested in checking out their Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube? Of course you are... you never know when you may come across a deal!

I received an item(s), in exchange for my honest opinion, and a review of my experience. I did not receive any other compensation or incentive nor was I required to write a positive review. Individual results or experiences may vary.

What to Wear: Fashion Do's and Don'ts For That First Date

Preparing for a first date is as nerve-wracking as it is exciting. Add "What should I wear?" to the list of things to consider, and you just upped your stress level. First impressions are everything, so follow these do’s and don’t’s to ensure you look your best for your special night.

Don’t Wear Something Trendy if It Doesn't Look Good on You

While looking trendy may be important to some girls, what is most sexy is rockin’ something that looks good on your body type and attests to who you are as a woman. Any date would rather have a woman wear something she loves than something she's not comfortable in. Confidence is sexy.

Do Wear a Killer Pair of Shoes

Not every woman loves heels, and a pair of boots can look just as sexy. Wear something that evokes confidence without looking like you tried too hard. Opt for something in your closet as opposed to new shoes, in case you'll be doing some walking. Comfort is key, despite what any fashion magazine tells you. If you're not typically a girl who wears heels, then don't. Don't present something to a first date that isn't you.

Don’t Show Too Much Skin

C’mon girls, the boys don’t want to see all the goodies that first night. Leave a little to the imagination. Mystery is sexy. Not only do you not want to send the wrong message, but if you want to look like bring-home-to-Mom material, wear something sexy but smart. Leave him wanting more.

Do Wear an Outfit That Matches Your Personality

During a first date, he is trying to discover who you are. By wearing something that attests to that, you allow your personal style to shine through on your date. Choose something from your closet that you know you’re comfortable in. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. If you normally wear glasses, wear them; if you prefer contact lenses, go with those. Be yourself.

Don’t Overdo the Makeup

After all, your date wants to see you for you. He doesn’t want to see tons of makeup. Play it safe with light makeup that complements your best features, whether that's your eyes, cheekbones or lips.

Do Wear Black

If you're lacking confidence or just don't know what to wear, opt for that little black dress. Accessorize it in a way that shows your date who you are. Add a colorful scarf or an edgy studded belt. Pair it with cowboy foots or cute ballet flats. Whatever feels right for your style is what you should wear for your first date, each and every time.

A New Inner Bliss!

INNER BLISS @ OneTaste Urban Retreat Center

The brainchild of founder, Nicole Daedone, the OneTaste Urban Retreat Center, located in San Francisco, is a unique foray into the study and practice of female-centered spirituality and sexuality. The center, which is home to 38 men and women, focuses on the use of yoga and meditation to empower women and encourage spiritual freedom using a combination of Eastern spirituality and feminism. One technique used by the residents, which is called “morning practice” on the website calendar, is known as orgasmic meditation. This ritual focuses solely on female orgasm and sexuality, although participants claim that the practice is not sexual in nature.

Daedone Influences

Ms. Daedone’s mentor was Ray Vetterlein, a sex therapist who claimed to lengthen the female orgasm to 20 minutes. He was inspired by Lafayette Morehouse, who operated a community that still exists in California where women are publicly brought to orgasm. The community has been in existence since 1976, and its founder, Victor Baranco, called the process “responsible hedonism,” but was often controversial as many who lived in the community said he used coercive mind control techniques. Ms. Daedone studied semantics at San Francisco State University, and eventually opened an art gallery. When she learned her father was dying of cancer in prison, where he was sent after being convicted of molesting two young girls, caused her to seek self-awareness. Ms. Daiedone delved into Buddhism, intending to live in a Zen community, until, at a party, she met a Buddhist who practiced what he called “contemplative sexuality.” That was her first experience with the process she now calls orgasmic meditation.

Orgasmic Meditation

Ms. Daedone says that she was asked to lie, unclothed, while the gentleman set a timer and began stroking her, narrating in detail the beauty he saw in her feminine region. She says that she just “broke open” and at that moment, “decided to live.” At the retreat center, the residents have an oddly clinical relationship. Eye contact during the sessions is not permitted, and the focus is to extend sensation and share it publicly before climaxing. Only women are touched during the process, yet the men say they also experience satiation, likening the process to the hydration of the body.

Ms. Daedone hopes to create mainstream urban centers throughout the country, and offers weekend workshops and private training sessions in orgasmic meditation, as well as mindful sexuality. She says that the American culture is that women are to have open feelings and closed sexuality, while men are to have open sexuality and closed feelings. She hopes to open men up to feelings while opening women up to sexuality to eliminate the resistance and shame that come with sexuality.

Time to Pull Myself Together

The last little while I've had a fair amount of stress, and I'm still trying to deal with everything. With work, my health, friends and family, as well as the money situation being difficult, there never seems to be a shortage of drama, and/or stress. I'm at a better place in my life then I was two years ago, but it's still a daily battle. Lucky for me I have a couple amazing friends and a loving family to help me get through tough times. With that said, one HUGE issue that I'm dealing with at the moment is the debt that my husband and I have, just never seems to go down. Just when I think we've made some progress in getting stuff paid off and under control, something else pops up. It's one of the many reasons I don't sleep at night.

I have set myself a number of goals to try and get my stuff in order:

  • Pay off line of credit
  • Pay off MC
  • Stop using MC
  • No purchasing unnecessary items
  • Go to gym minimum 3 x's a week to relieve stress
  • Keep a spending journal
  • Plan meals and shopping a week in advance, to keep costs down
This is just the beginning of a very long and stressful process. With me working in the field of finances, I see first hand the damage of debt can cause people. I know what I have to do to try and get it together... I just gotta stay positive and strong.

Where Have I Been?!

So for those of you who read my blog on a regular basis, you've probably noticed that I've been mia for some time. Where have I been hiding? No where exciting unfortunately. Quite a bit has been going on in my life, and I've been debating how much to disclose. When I started this blog it was for therapeutic purposes, but with the increase of followers and family/friends reading, I've kind of lost that side and freedom.

I've been somewhat okay. I've been burdened with a fair amount of stress, but it's somewhat manageable compared to the past. I guess the huge difference is that I'm not depressed like before, God bless Prozac! I have however, had a number of panic attacks, and my anxiety has been crazy. How have I been managing it? I've been going to the gym at least three times a week, to help relax and relieve stress. Yoga has become a huge part of my life, which helps me unwind.

I've also been having a huge spell of insomnia lately, which I know probably will be followed with crazy fatigue. I know my body, and the patterns I go through. I'm so far behind in things, keep putting everything off. I have a shit load of product review to work on, as well as art for some people... portraits. My mind and heart just isn't in it at the moment, and I have trouble focusing. I'm not depressed like I was to the point of not wanting to live, but I'm still battling depression. It's a daily  battle that I don't wish upon anyone.

Once again it's fairly late and I'm unable to sleep. Millions of things run thought my mind... it's a never ending story in my brain. I've been self medicating to manage everything, and I know it will eventually bite me in the ass.

Well that's enough rambling and torture for tonight... I will fill you all in on more gossip later. Have a great weekend and God bless.

Five Autumn Trends You'll Fall For

Autumn and winter short paragraph Slim leather jacket

Pumpkin spice lattes are definitely one of the most highly anticipated perks of fall, but the fashion? Eh. Some people really love the color gray, and that's cool and all, but does fall fashion really have to be so boring? Contrary to popular belief, you can rock eye-catching, funky fashion even with the dreary skies and chilly temps. Compete with the changing leaves this season by rocking these four fresh fashion trends.

1. Colorful Makeup

If you're going to rock shades of beige or gray for fall, you can at least spice it up a little with a splash of color using your makeup collection. You can't go wrong with a red lip, some intellectual-chic glasses and a messy updo to complement a casual/preppy look. You can also pop in your Vision Direct color-enhancing contact lenses to let your vibrant eye makeup shine. Orange eye shadow is a big trend this season, while icy blue, cat-eye eyeliner can add a vogue touch to an all black look.

2. Hair Chalk

This gorgeous look is hippie-chic and guaranteed to set you apart this season. Use Free People hair chalk to weave warm hues through a classic fishtail braid, or mix in cool tones with a high bun. Soft chalk pastels can also be found at your local art store for a cheaper way to try out the trend. This versatile style is perfect for embracing the changing colors of fall, while creating a very natural, earthy vibe to your look. Finish out the look with an over-sized knit, bold tights and denim shorts.

3. Leopard Print

It's about time leopard print got the spotlight it deserves. This fierce trend has the perfect balance of sass and class to freshen up your fall wardrobe. A leopard scarf can do wonders for a basic sweater and skinny jeans combo, and you can't go wrong with a pair of leopard booties to add some "oomph" to your favorite LBD. Go for two trends in one with a sheer, button-up leopard print blouse, which adds a healthy dose of sex appeal to an otherwise conservative autumn getup.

4. Dazzling Outerwear

A good coat can last you several winters, so why not splurge on an extra special number that goes beyond the basic trench or peacoat classics? Take some inspiration from Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week, and try out a feathered or fur overcoat for an opulent outer layer. You can also rock a vibrant color like bright red, tantalizing turquoise or sunny yellow to keep your look alive even when you're running from the cold. Make sure to keep the rest of your outfit neutral to avoid any awkward clashes.

5. Hats

Hat season is the best season for girls who know what it's like to wake up with a heinous flurry of hair. Add a cozy-cute finale to your fall look with a puff-ball beanie, or go for a hipster trend with a boho head-wrap. Don't be afraid to mix it up with adorable fedoras and casual baseball hats to keep your head covered this season.

Capture the Perfect Picture of Your Dog for the Family Christmas Card

According to the Humane Society of America, there are more than 78 million dogs in households across America, and approximately 46 percent of households have at least one dog. Pets are an integral part of our families, and many pet parents feature them front and center on the family Christmas card. If you're one of them, here's how to best photograph your dog to create just the right effect.

Consider Backdrop, Costumes and Props

If you are shooting a Christmas card portrait, set the scene with a Christmas theme. Determine where you want to take the picture: in front of the tree, outside in the snow, with wrapping paper, etc. If you are having trouble determining what you want your picture to look like, consider browsing sites like Pinterest.com or Photobucket.com for ideas.

Capture Your Dog's Personality

Your dog has a unique personality, and it's up to you to capture it. The New York Institution of Photography suggests you follow your dog around and track any behavior that is unique to your dog. Once you identify something your dog does that makes him different, implement that into your card. For instance, if your dog walks on his front legs only in the snow, attempt to capture him in his version of a handstand. Or perhaps your dog acts almost human in certain situations. Capturing his expressions can make a fun Christmas card.

Get on His Level

In the world of photography, it is always best to get on the level of your subject. In the case of your dog, this often means getting down on the ground right with him. Taking pictures from above tend to make your dog look small, while taking them on his level will keep things true to life. If you are trying to capture your dog in the moment, it is often best to use a zoom lens instead of getting close to your dog at the risk of interrupting the moment.

Be Ready for Action

Dogs, especially those that are easily excitable, aren't likely to sit still for your photo shoot. In addition to being prepared for a long photo shoot, choose camera settings and film speeds that are conducive to moving subjects. Set shutter speed at 1/125 to capture your dog even if he moves, and use ISO 400 or 800 film, if you are still using a film camera. These factors can help you capture the perfect picture, even if Fido won't sit still for more than a few seconds.

Get Creative

Once you have the perfect photograph of your pet, create the ideal Christmas card to really make an impression on your recipients. Minted.com enables you to get creative with your Christmas card photo ideas with fully customizable Christmas card options. Come up with a fun saying that mirrors a popular holiday greeting, but with a dog twist—for instance, try "Bark the Halls," "Seasons Grrrrrrreetings" or "Santa Claws Is Watching." Try to match the saying with the picture, such as featuring your pet in a Santa hat for the last example.

Big and Tall, They've Got it All!

It can be challenging to find the contemporary styles and popular brands of practical clothing found in larger sizes. Men are particularly faced with having to sacrifice name-brand quality for the fit offered by inferior manufacturers. Many consumers that have dealt with this issue have found some relief through online merchants and apparel sites that specialize in big and tall clothing from respected and reputable brands; the pricing, convenience, and availability make this a prudent way to shop for work or casual apparel.

Anyone who has attempted to find popular styles in tall or large sizes have found that these sizes can sell out quickly, leaving them waiting for back-orders or without the clothing needed. Names such as Carhart, Dickies, and Columbia are recognized for their quality and many may use such labels for work-related use, yet it can be tough to find big and tall sizes readily at brick-and-mortar retail venues. Some savvy shoppers have discovered the rewards of changing their shopping habits and integrating online purchases into their lives, enjoying not just the reward of fine clothing that fits but often times these consumers find prices that are lower than the competitors. Be sure to refer to manufacturer size charts to ensure fit when buying from online merchants, and also to clarify what the return or exchange policy is in the event the items do not suit the buyer's needs for any reason.
