Moving Checklist #moving

I'm super excited and stressed at the same time, as I'm moving over the next couple weeks. I go tomorrow to meet with the lawyer to sign and work out the final details, and then hopefully get the keys within a couple days. Since I've been planning the move for a while, I've decided to come up with a checklist to help make sure I've covered everything regarding it. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything...

More than 14 days before moving

__ Get boxes and moving supplies
__ Take unwanted items to charity and/or dump them.
__ Arrange phone service at your new home
__ Set up mail-forward with Canada Post
__ Arrange the return of any cable TV and internet equipment, or a transfer

Complete necessary change of address forms:
__ Drivers license, health cards, insurance
__ Employer, doctor, dentist
__ Magazine subscriptions and other mailings
__ Memberships
__ Bank accounts, credit cards and tax office (CRA)

8 to 14 days before moving

__ Return anything that's borrowed
__ Arrange for appliances to be moved
__ Arrange connection of utilities at the new place
__ Arrange disconnection of utilities at the old place

2 to 7 days before moving

__ Determine what you can bring with you if travelling by car, plane, train or bus
__ Prepare "installed items" that you're bringing (TV or shelves, painting of walls)
__ Pack a suitcase with the clothes and toiletrties that you'll need the first day in the new home

The day before moving

__ Take down curtains and curtain rods
__ Empty, defrost and clean refrigerator, clean the stove
__ Pack your personal belongings, except your alarm clock, a few pair of clothes, jewellry and     bedding

Moving day

__ Keep paperwork accessible
__ Strip and dismantle beds
__ Final walk-through: check all closets and cabinets
__ If using a moving company, walk about with supervisor and sign inventory forms
__ Collect all keys and keep them in a safe place
__ Clean premises that you are leaving, and inspect with landlord
__ Know how to reach your new landlord or superintendent
