Tips To Help Eliminate Sugar Cravings
One of the main reasons that people crave sweets is because their insulin is high. Once it starts to fall, our body wants the sugar to spike it back up again. It's a horrible cycle, which will leave you feeling tired and fatigued.
Here are some tips to help you get back on track, to help you feel energetic again.
Increase your protein.
At times our body feels like our body wants sugar, when it's just craving protein. Try starting with an egg, or something that is high in protein.
Remove all temptations.
Out of sight, out of mind! If you don't have them around the home, it's harder to indulge. If you're having a hard time at work, do what you can to remove the temptation before the craving hits. Pack and bring a lunch to work, which include some healthy alternatives for snacking.
Eat Frequently.
Don't skip a meal! Cravings will be stronger when you've skipped a meal, or have a drop in your blood sugar. When you snack every couple hours, you avoid that drop in blood sugar. Try eating at least 3 good meals a day, along with snacks between... a snack being a piece of fruit, veggie, yogurt, etc.
Avoid artificial sweeteners.
Artificial sweeteners actually make our body crave more sweets. Studies are starting to show that some may actually contribute to cancer. It is better to stick to using stuff that is natural... honey, or stevia.
Cut out sweets or indulge in small amounts.
Since our insulin is so used to being somewhat high, the first three days are the highest when cutting back sugar. If you can eliminate sweets until your body has a chance to let the insulin come down, you won't crave them like you did. Then you'll be able to be satisfied with small amounts.
When I limit my sugar, I always feel better. I hope these tips help you feel better and help you to become healthier!
