It's that time of year again, when people start thinking about shopping for the holiday season. I'm famous for having all my shopping completed early, and this year is no exception to that. In the spirit of Christmas, I'm working with a number of companies who have joined in my Holiday Gift Guide 2015... and this is my ninth post!

My little munchkin was born this past July, and it's been a fun journey so far. She's going on five months now, and a day doesn't go by that I'm not amazed by her. I look back at pictures from day one, and I can't get over how much she's grown and changed... my little angel is growing so quickly. We've been trying to sleep train her, and have been trying to get her to sleep in her crib. She's still having a hard time falling asleep, unless she's cuddling with her mommy feeding. So I'm currently trying to break that habit, and get her to sleep directly in the crib. Since she's sleep training, I'm incredibly thankful for getting the opportunity to work with a company called BabySense.

I had contacted the company back in the summer, as I was looking for baby companies to work with. I actually received the BabySense 5s Movement Monitor long before my daughter was born. It stayed in the box for quite some time before I got to test it out. I didn't even have a crib until after she was born, as I was originally going to wait until I moved... wanted less furniture to move. After she was born and a couple months passed by, I realized that we really needed a crib... so we ended up getting one. I was using the Pack N Play, but it's not really meant to be used every day. I was also missing having a nursery for her, so I was excited to finally get a corner in my bedroom set up just for her.

Having a baby at home can be quite stressful, yet exciting and rewarding. There's plenty of things that I already worry about, so any products that can help ease any of those worries, I'm thankful for. The BabySense is a device that helps monitor your baby's breathing while she sleeps... to help aid in prevention of SIDS.

Babysense 5s is the original and first non-touch monitor of its kind, intended for detection of cessation of movements in infants.

Babysense 5s is a highly sensitive non-touch device that monitors a baby's micro-movements through the mattress during sleep and gives an alert to caretakers if the infant's micro-movements stop or become irregularly slow.

Babysense 5s was developed because caretakers cannot easily provide 24 hour surveillance of an infant that is necessary in view of the dangers that may face infants in hospitals and at home during their early stages of development. The use of the Babysense baby movement monitor during the infants' rest periods provides them a sense of comfort and allows them to sleep and rest better knowing that their baby's movements are constantly being monitored. See what some of our parents are saying about the Babysense movement monitor.

Babysense’s highly effective micro-movement monitoring system has helped protect over 600,000 babies around the world.

Babysense was extensively tested in hospitals and used in government programs targeted to provide parents and healthcare providers with enhanced means to monitor an infants' movements.

How it works:
Babysense is a highly sensitive device that monitors and detects even the slightest movements through the mattress.

The control unit is connected to sensor pads placed between infant's mattress and crib or bed base. The included hook attaches to the crib bottom so that no wires are exposed to the baby's environment.

Babysense sounds an alarm alerting to check the baby if no movement is detected for more than 20 seconds or if the movement rate slows to less than 10 micro-movements per minute.

It took me a little longer to set this up, as I didn't realize right away that I would have to visit the local hardware store prior to using it. Yes, I'm famous for not reading instructions until after! If you have a crib where the bottom is mainly metal springs, you will need some plywood underneath each sensor. Other than that, the whole thing was super easy to set up. The sensors go directly under the mattress, and plug into the sensor unit. The unit gets clicked into the holder, which attaches to the crib. I chose to place this at the front of the crib, so that way I wouldn't forget to turn it on each time. Once you lay your baby down to sleep, you just press the button on the unit once... it will flash red, and then every few seconds there's a flash of blue showing that's it's on. If you decide to pick up your baby, make sure to push the button once to turn it off, or the sensors will sound the alarm within 20 seconds... I forgot to do this a few times in the middle of the night, and it will wake the whole house up!

Having this little device gives me a peace of mind, and is one less thing for me to worry about. Every family with a new baby should own one of these... it would make for an excellent baby shower gift, or even a gift for this holiday season. The unit is affordable, so it wouldn't hurt your pocket too much!
