There are very few things in life that are as painful as losing someone you love in death. There is nothing that can fully prepare a person for the impact that this life change will bring. In the moments following the death of a loved one, there are some very important decisions that the family needs to make. One of the decisions is whether or not they will bury the deceased individual or if they will cremate them. Cremation is becoming increasingly popular for end-of-life needs. The following are some of the reasons why.
Cremation's Low Cost
The cost of cremating a dead loved one is a fraction of what it costs to bury them. When a person is buried, they have the expenses of the burial vault, a casket, the land where the individual is buried, the tombstone or grave marker, and the expense of the burial service.
With cremation, the cost is substantially lower. Some families will choose to keep the cremated remains of their loved ones in an urn, while others will bury the cremated remains. Choosing an affordable cremation service allows family members to use their resources to care for other financial obligations connected with the death of their loved one.
Cremation Allows for More Flexibility
When a family chooses to cremate their dead loved one, they have the flexibility to decide if they wish to have the funeral prior to the cremation or if they wish to have the memorial service after the cremation. In some cultures, families opt to have the cremation service at the same time they have the cremation performed. Others opt to have a direct cremation with no funeral service at all.
Cremation provides the family with the flexibility to have the funeral service weeks after the loved one passes. This allows family members who live long distances away to arrange their affairs in order to be in attendance at the funeral service.
Cremation Is the Environmentally Friendly Option
For individuals that are concerned about how their death will affect the environment, cremation is a good option. When a person is cremated, embalming chemicals are not used. Cremation limits the number of natural resources that are used.
As with any end-of-life decisions, it is best for a family to plan ahead. Although it can be difficult to talk about, a family should discuss the pros and cons of cremation and then decide together if it is the best option for them and their loved ones.
Very nice Anne. Fine observations put through words. *Thumbs up* (@SansLaVoix)
ReplyDeleteMany people still have a preference for burial for religious or sentimental reasons, but if your priority is finding something that’s affordable, easy, and flexible – while still being meaningful, then cremation is likely to be your best choice.
