AnytimeCostumes.com $25 Giveaway!

Halloween has come and gone, but that still doesn't mean that I don't like to dress up every once in a while. I'm a woman who enjoys dressing up in something sexy, getting my hair and nails done, doing my make-up and role playing with my cutie! I discovered AnytimeCostumes.com and immediately fell in love with their huge choice of costumes and awesome prices.  AnytimeCostumes.com  lets you buy costumes and accessories at prices that are below the lowest retail prices you’ll find anywhere.

The selection they offer is tremendous. They have great new designs from popular costume manufacturers. The costumes you will find are the same costumes you will find at mass retail stores and online shops. They offer costumes for men, women, couples, sexy costumes, plus size, teen, infant, toddler, girls, boys and even pets. They also offer hats, masks, wigs, and other costume accessories.

There's so many different costumes that I love, and it was hard to select just one for review. I personally love the international costumes the most, I went with the Queen of Da Nile, which is an Egyptian inspired costume.

Since the costume didn't come in an XL, I decided to go with a large. I normally wear an XL or a size 14, and this actually fit perfectly. I figured that I would actually wear the dress with leggings or jeans, and wear it out for daily wear, with the removal of the cape. I don't really understand the purpose of the cape... it made me feel like a superhero! No worries, it can easily be removed, without it leaving any trace of it being there.

The packaging was super strong and durable, which held up well during shipping. It came in a bubble lined envelope, which held the package. the package was in a clear thick plastic bag, that snapped shut. It had a small little hanger at the top. Super cute and feminine packaging for the costume, which showed the high quality of the product.

Some other costumes that I would love to own are...

Where have I been hiding?

Where have I been hiding? Well, all I can say right now is I'm stressed out of my mind. About what? Well, for once I actually can't really say. When I started this blog it was so I could speak my mind, but now since some family and friends read it, I feel like a lot of the time I have to hold back. Originally this blog was a way of saying what I felt, a way to clear my mind... a form of therapy. What do I do when I can't do that anymore? Or maybe I should just talk my mind and fuck what others think. For now... all I can say is I'm stressed and ready to have a nervous breakdown.

Happy Mother's Day!

Though it technically comes only once a year, it should really be that every day is Mother’s Day. Because moms are moms every day of the year. Their awesomeness never stops. Be sure to show your mom some love on Sunday (and every day after that). Seriously, it’s the cool thing to do. Even kittehs are doing it!
Because, after all, moms never stop working to fix our problems…

Mumbai Women Speak Out Against Eve Teasing

Today, I was contacted by someone who sent me a link to a social campaign against Eve Teasing in India, which he’d been involved in creating. (For those of you that are unfamiliar with the term, it refers to the sexually inappropriate behaviour of certain Indian men who stare at women on the streets, pass lewd comments, molest women, and even kidnap and rape them).

It’s a horrible experience that no women should have to go through. However, unfortunately, it’s a common problem in India. And, it must stop.

The aim of the campaign is to give a voice to women in India and draw attention to the issue. Hopefully, it will also create awareness internationally about how serious the problem is.

Do watch and share.

Trials and Tribulations of an Indian Marriage

Marriage isn’t always easy and all marriages have problems. Some, unfortunately, end in divorce when the problems are insurmountable. However, this recent newspaper article made me realise just how different the problems can be in Indian marriages compared to western marriages.

The focus of the article is the hearing of an appeal in the Bombay High Court of a man (aged 30) seeking a divorce from his wife (aged 26), which the Family Court had declined to grant him.

The couple in question were married just two weeks after their engagement. Only four months into their marriage, the husband decided that he wanted a divorce on grounds of cruelty. So what exactly were the cruel deeds that the wife had done to him?

According to the husband’s divorce application, the cruelty started on their honeymoon when the wife refused to have sex with him unless contraception was used. Apparently, she didn’t want to conceive until the couple had settled down.

Then, after the couple returned to their matrimonial home, the husband discovered that his wife couldn’t cook properly. His petition claimed that she was spoiling food and “served half-cooked and half boiled” food to his parents and sister.

The husband’s advocate said that before marriage, the family was told the woman knew how to cook. The advocate also stated that although the husband insisted on a working wife as a precondition of the marriage, he objected to her coming home late from work.

Other complaints that the husband had were that the wife refused to share her income and was not religious enough.

What did the judges have to say about it? Apparently, they were amused, and were of the view that it was all too trivial to dissolve a marriage.

“It’s difficult to get a lady perfect in preparing food. Send her for cooking classes. Is there any judgment which says refusal to cook is grounds for divorce?” asked Justice Majmudar.

“Traditional days are gone when women wore a ghoonghat (veil) before their in-laws . We can’t be touchy about it. Show us any lady on the road wearing a ghoonghat,” said Justice Majmudar. “This is a woman of Kalyug and not old days,” he added.

The judges observed that the duration between engagement and marriage was short and said prospective couples should spend more time together before the big day.

The matter has been adjourned to see if there can be a settlement.

Hunger-busters: 6 healthy craving substitutes

Got a craving that just won't go away? Ditch the junk and try one of these six healthy craving substitutes that will surely get your taste buds singing.

You know the feeling. You're curled up on the couch before bed, lost in a good book, when that dull ache that's been building in your stomach becomes a full-blown growl.

Yep, it's a major case of the munchies, and you've got two options: valiantly try to fight those hunger pangs for the benefit of your waistline, or succumb to the snack attack.

According to statistics, most of us are choosing the latter, with snacks now accounting for a whopping 25 per cent of our daily caloric intake, or about 580 calories per day. Researchers say the surge in snacking – from an average of 1.26 snacks daily in the late 1970s to 2.23 snacks per day from 2003 to 2006 – is very likely to blame for our extra padding. It's not that snacking is bad; rather, the problem lies in the choices we make when we cave in to our cravings.

Instead of reaching for a nutrient-dense piece of fruit, too often we're tempted by snacks that are nutritionally bereft, offering nothing but empty calories. And that's not entirely our fault, explains John Fleming, a psychologist in Toronto who specializes in disordered eating. "We're surrounded by highly palatable junk foods, and those things are marketed so well," he says. "We've been sold on the easy life, which is having potato chips or a particular kind of cookie – tasty foods that are readily available."

By making smarter snacking decisions, however, we can still satisfy our cravings and even boost our health. Here's our expert guide to help you through every type of snack attack.

1. Craving substitutes for pop
Satisfy your thirst with a substitute that's lighter on sugar. Axe the added sugar but keep the fizz by tossing lemon slices and mint into a glass of soda water. If iced tea is your weakness, make your own: Brew up your favourite blend, add a touch of honey, and flavour with mint before chilling. "This gives you something refreshing to drink without loads of sugar, and actually provides you with antioxidants," says Vanessa Perrone, a Montreal-based registered dietitian.

2. Craving substitutes for salty snacks
Ditch the potato chips and reach for some salted edamame. Packaged snack foods are loaded with sodium and often contain little nutritional value. If you absolutely must have something salty, Gloria Tsang, a Vancouver-based dietitian and author of Go UnDiet (HealthCastle, 2011), recommends edamame. The protein-rich green pods are simple to prepare and are naturally low in sodium, so you get to control the amount of salt you consume. The best part is that 300 calories' worth of edamame packs about 29 grams of protein, 10 grams of fibre and important minerals such as iron.

3. Craving substitutes for sweets
Steer clear of chocolate cheesecake and make your own Greek-style yogurt parfait instead. The next time your sweet tooth strikes, consider Perrone's alternative to a calorie-dense confection: a dessert parfait. She layers Greek yogurt between chopped fruit, mixing in some granola, and topping it off with a sprinkle of shredded coconut. "Each serving of Greek yogurt has twice the protein content of a serving of milk, and is also fat-free," says Perrone, adding that protein helps induce a feeling of fullness.

4. Craving substitutes for crunchy foods
Swap the caramel corn for a bowl of pistachios, the most waistline-friendly nut. As long as they aren't coated in chocolate or covered in salt, nuts tend to be a smart snack option. "They're rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which help keep our hearts healthy," says Perrone. The downside is that up to 90 per cent of the calories in some nuts come from fat, which means the calorie count can add up fast. "The key is portion control," says Perrone. This is one of the reasons she suggests pistachios to satisfy a crunch craving. Not only do they have a slightly lower fat content than most nuts, but the recommended serving of 45 to 50 nuts is also much larger than the 10 to 20 recommended for most other varieties. Consider: A one-ounce serving of pistachios equals a hunger-busting 49 nuts and 159 calories, whereas one ounce of walnut halves only gets you 14 pieces and packs 185 calories.

5. Craving substitutes for dips
Nix the nachos and creamy dip, and reach for some crudités and hummus. Made from mashed chickpeas, hummus is low in fat and calories. Two tablespoons contain a meagre 70 calories, compared to the 180 found in the same amount of most brands of mayonnaise. Tsang points out that hummus is also high in fibre and protein, and she recommends making your own from canned chickpeas. Snazz up this snack by getting creative with what you dip. "It doesn’t always have to be carrots and celery sticks," says Perrone. "You can reach for endive, radish, fennel bulb and bell pepper."

6. Craving substitutes for popcorn
Trade fat-filled buttery microwave popcorn for the air-popped variety. Air-popped popcorn is a star snack food. "It's low-calorie, which means you can have a high volume," says Perrone. The whole grain kernels are also filled with fibre, which makes it more satiating than many other snack options. Finding it flavourless without the fat? Create your own signature seasoning with a few shakes of your fave spices.

5 bad snacking habits to avoid:

1. Mindless snacking
When we shovel food into our mouths while doing something else, such as watching TV or surfing the Internet, the snack doesn't register. "People are much more likely to eat past fullness [in these instances]," says John Fleming, a Toronto psychologist.

2. Snacking on the go
"When we're eating on the run, we tend to have the feeling that we need to eat fast and we need to finish it," says Vancouver-based dietitian Gloria Tsang, adding that we also tend to make poor snack choices when we're rushed.

3. No advanced planning
Pack healthy snacks, such as nuts, dried fruit and cereal bars, before heading to work, or stash some in your office to avoid making a bad snack choice when that 3 p.m. lull hits.

4. Late-night snacking
"The more tired you are, the more likely you'll eat poorly," says Fleming. Snacking right before bedtime may also interfere with sleep, which is important for weight regulation.

5. Filling up on snack food
"If you're truly hungry, then you should be having some substantive food so that you're not trying to fill your hunger with potato chips," says Fleming.

What a pain in the butt!

Why am I awake so early? I must be crazy, eh?! Damn cat had to take a real stinker of a poop, and there was no way around the smell. Of course the stinky beast is fast asleep on my bed, and I'm not wide awake. How can something so small, smell so bad?! I love the butterball turkey of a cat, but what a pain in the butt. Can't he have a poop when I'm not sleeping?! At least he doesn't poop while I'm eating dinner anymore. Yes, the weird things that go on my mind first thing in the morning... poop!

So my surgery can't come soon enough... I've had yet another gallbladder attack, and it was after eating cereal. What in the world do I eat? It seems right now almost anything can set it off. I even had pain after drinking water... which is crazy. With this surgery I'm not scared at all, I can't wait for them to rip the damn thing out of me. I've read quite a few places online that many people still have pain after gallbladder removal, and I pray that doesn't happen. I did notice though that that sort of thing happens usually if you eat something that you shouldn't... usually something greasy or fattening. With having gastric bypass surgery, I have to avoid those things anyway.

I just want to feel normal again, and be able to eat without feeling pain or discomfort. Hopefully I won't be in too much pain after the surgery, and have a fast recovery.

Time to bug the cat, since he woke me up!

What Are Your Nails Saying About Your Health?

Do your fingernails crack, split or become so soft that they move up and down like a sponge? If so, your nails may be affected with a condition known as onychoschizia. This is a pretty common condition that describes nails that are fragile, split, thin and/or soft.

THE NAIL TALE

Nails are made from a protein known as keratin, and their strength, growth rate and thickness are determined by genetics. Nails are part of a bigger picture that includes the:

  • Nail plate, which is what we see
  • Nail bed, which is what the nail sits upon
  • Nail folds, which are grooves in the skin where the nail plate sits
  • Cuticle, which is a thin layer of skin overlying the base of the nail
  • Matrix, which is the area of nail growth just under the skin at the base of the nail
Many simple nail problems affect either finger or toenails (sometimes both), while more significant health issues (lung disease, heart valve infection, skin disorders, etc.) have the potential to simultaneously affect the color, shape, thickness, appearance and health of both the finger and toenails.

While there are lots of reasons for nails that are soft, crack or split, the most common can usually be traced to one of these three reasons:

1). Repetitive and prolonged wetting and drying of the nails
2). Damage from chemicals such as detergents, cleaning fluids and nail polish remover
3). Trauma to the nails such as from biting, injuries, etc.

SAVE THE NAILS

Fortunately, the following strategies can help to reverse the damaging affects from these activities:
  • Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when having prolonged exposure to wet conditions or exposure to cleaning products.
  • Never peel or scrape nail polish off the nails.
  • Stop biting the nails or using them as tools, like picking teeth.
  • Do not use metal instruments to push back the cuticles. Sometimes this action also scrapes the nail surface. Keep the nails short and shaped with rounded tips if you partake in activities that can traumatize the nails, such as certain sports, jobs, etc.
  • Minimize the use of nail polish remover as it can dry out the nails and leave them more prone to cracking.
Summing up, with the help of lifestyle changes (no more nail biting), your nail problem can often be helped. However, to nail down a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, please visit your physician.
