Prep For the Warm Weather Months

The summer is fast approaching. While the warm weather means you can have some fun in the sun, it also means that annoying mosquitoes will be out in force to spoil any outdoor activities that you are planning on having. However, you do not have to let these pests ruin all of your outdoor fun. There are things you can do to reduce the amount of mosquitoes in your area. Avoiding mosquito bites is critical for your health. While everyone hates the itchy and red bumps that mosquito bites leave, these insects are also known to spread the potentially deadly West Nile virus. Because of the health risks that are very real, here are some of the ways to stop mosquitoes from harassing you in the warm weather.


1. Insect zappers

These devices have been around for decades. They have proven to be an effective way to severely limit the amount of mosquitoes in an area. These are meant to be used at night. A bright fluorescent light attracts the insects and they are electrocuted when the get too close to the light. These is ideal if you are planning on having a gathering of people at night during mosquito season.

2. Hire a professional exterminator

If you have a mosquito or tick issue that you simply are not able to handle on your own, it may be necessary to call a professional exterminator to solve your pest problem. These people have all the necessary chemicals and equipment to make these annoying insects a distant memory. They know all of the latest methods of mosquito and tick control. For people who are worried about the health risks and potential side effects of pesticides, this should no longer be a concern. There are now a wide variety of all-natural methods of killing insects that will not put the health of you or your family at risk. Have no fear, you will not be breathing in harmful pesticide chemicals for days after the exterminator finishes his work.

3. Standing water should be removed

The combination of humid weather and standing water equals a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Therefore, you should do a thorough search of your property or the area where you are going to have an outdoor event. Any standing water will need to be dealt with, especially if you see mosquitoes buzzing around it. Plastic swimming pools are a popular place for mosquitoes to breed.
