Happy 1 Year Anniversary Gastric Bypass!

This time a year ago, I had already had my gastric bypass surgery, and would now be in my semi private room all drugged out. I can't believe a year has gone by since the big day, and wow, what a change in my life. I've lost 118Lbs in total, and now weight 185Lbs. The weight loss has slowed down, as I'm getting closer to my goal weight.

Deciding to have the surgery, was the best decision I've ever made, and was quite a hard one. I had applied for it, went for the classes and did all the testing. I sailed through everything and was fine, until the morning of the surgery. The surgery was at 7:30am, and I was a major wreck. I was so scared and nervous, I almost ran away from it all! Thank God I didn't, because I'd probably be over 400Lbs by now without it.

The surgery is just a tool to help you with your weight loss, it still doesn't change your thoughts and cravings that you may have. I still struggle on a regular basis with certain foods, but because of the size of my stomach, at least I can't eat more than 6oz at a time. Since the surgery I have now become lactose intolerant, my blood sugar at times gets too low if I forget to eat, and I think my gallbladder may have to be removed some time down the road... it's common to get gallstones after the surgery, and most people end up removing their gallbladder. No matter the problems that I've faced so far... I wouldn't change a thing. It was the best decision I ever made, and I'd do it all over and make the same decision.

Starting weight... over 300Lbs
Current weight... 185Lbs
Next goal ... 150Lbs
Final goal... 130Lbs

Clothing size I used to wear... 28 for tops and pants, or 4X.
Current clothing size... 14 or an XL.
Bra size prior... 48DD
Current bra size... 36D

I was on hypertension pills... two to be exact, and I'm now off them. My PCOS is under control, and I no longer hemorrhage during my periods, and I'm actually regular now.

So happy 1 Year Anniversary to me!

  3. Your story is quite inspiring! You lost a lot of weight as if you'd had liposuction from the plastic surgeons in Long Island, but then everything in you is natural. Good job!

  4. I agree with Maia. Many have resorted to gastric bypass and coolsculpting as alternative to liposuction that turned out to be a success.
