My Lack of Protein and Weight Loss

I've been focusing on my weight loss journey for quite some time now. I've struggled for many years, for as long as I can remember. So far I've lost a total of 97Lbs, and I'm feeling awesome. Since the gastric bypass surgery, I've continued to have a problem of getting enough protein. Every day I'm barely getting half of the requirements, and I'm noticing the effects of it. One thing I'm thinking of trying is casein protein.

You may be asking yourself, what is casein? Well, Casein is a protein that is found in milk and used independently in many foods as a binding agent. Technically, it is part of a group called phosphoproteins, collections of proteins bound to something containing phosphoric acid. Casein may also be called caseinogen, particularly in European foods.

Casein is a salt, meaning it has no net ionic charge, of the element calcium. It has a number of interesting properties that make it useful in foods and cooking. Many people believe proteins are healthier if consumed when not denatured – one of the major lines of reasoning used in supporting a raw food diet. Denaturing occurs when a protein loses its inherent structure, due to high heat or acid for example, at which point it no longer acts in the ordinary manner. Casein, because of its structure, is not susceptible to denaturing.

Casein can be found in two main types: edible and technical. Edible casein is widely used in both medicine and food, both for nutritional value and as a binder. Technical casein is used in an enormous range of products, including paints, cosmetics, and many types of adhesives. A not-insubstantial number of people have a casein allergy and may find themselves experiencing negative reactions both to casein-containing food products and to products such as nail polish that contain casein.

If you're a vegetarian or a vegan, most would avoid any product that has casein listed in the ingredients. I truly would like to be 100% vegetarian, but with the protein problem at this moment, I will eat poultry.

When it comes to the protein supplements, I'm debating on which product I should use. There's so many kinds out there, with so many different benefits. The Metabolic Nutrition Protizyme whey protein sounds ideal for my lack of daily protein. Apparently it helps boost muscle and raises your metabolism, which I need. Hmmm... I'm not really a fan of the powdered protein, so this might not be my top choice.

Another product I've thought about, but haven't tried yet is Hydroxycut Caffeine Free. It's nice to finally find a diet pill that is caffeine free... you never see that. Since I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, I'm very cautious when it comes to anything that has caffeine. Now that I no longer take half of the medications that I used to, I don't mind trying a diet pill to help aid in my weight loss and break down the fat. I'm now off my hypertension medications, as well as the Metformin... wow!

  1. Have you considered using Hemp protein in smoothies or snacking on almonds/hemp seeds?
