Milk is a terrific source of lactic acid, a natural alpha-hydroxy-acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates the top layer of dull, dead skin cells, erasing blemishes and revealing a softer, brighter complexion. It also helps in cellular renewal, along with stepping up collagen and elastin production for firmer, more supple skin. And since lactic acid already exists in our cells, protecting against injury and sun damage, the body accepts it more readily than most synthetic AHAs. Result? Minimal irritation or inflammation. Besides this, milk is also loaded with vitamins A and D, protein and calcium – all of which are easily absorbed by the skin.

Hooked? You might want to try these simple concoctions.


MILK BATH
To replicate the famed royal baths, add 6 cups of full fat milk to your bathtub and soak for about 30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. For a more intense (though not so sweet smelling variation) use fermented whole milk, which has curdled. You will emerge with the smoothest skin imaginable!

No bathtub? Mix some honey and whole milk powder into a paste. Then use this paste in lieu of a shower gel – silky smooth skin guaranteed!

DEEP CLEANSING
For deep cleansing, apply a layer of milk to your skin; leave on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Skim well works well for oily skin, while normal, dry or mature skin would show better results with whole milk.

FRESH & GLOW-Y
Blend 6 teaspoons of honey with 5 teaspoons of milk, then apply the paste on cleansed face. Leave it for 15 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Do this once a week for a fresh and glowing complexion.

MILK SCRUB
To make a potent scrub, mix 2 teaspoons each of milk, honey and ground almonds. Smooth onto the face and neck; leave on for 5-10 minutes and then massage it off the face with gentle, circular motions. Finally, rinse off residue with warm water.

HAIR
To add body and shine to fine or lifeless hair, mix half a cup of dry milk powder with just enough water to make a paste, then gently massage the paste into your hair. Cover hair with a hot towel for half an hour, changing the towel when it cools. Rinse, shampoo and end with your conditioner for super-glossy locks.

Ban T-shirts: Thought Provoking Shirts With An Important Message!

For those of you who read my blog on a regular basis, you would know that I love reviewing beauty products, jewelry, and of course all kinds of fashion. My top favorite in the fashion world, would have to be t-shirts. Yes, I can be a girly girl at times... love anything that sparkles, but on top of that... I love to be comfortable. What better way then to sport a funky, comfortable t-shirt? Can a girl have too many t-shirts? For me, I don't think so! What I like to look for: something that's pleasing to the eye, great quality, available in many colors, styles and sizes, and it's gotta catch everyone's eye. I want something that will get some people talking, and possibly drop a few mouths at the same time. That's where Ban T-shirts comes in.

They're a company that offers all kinds of political t-shirts with progressive messages. Many thought provoking shirts, with topics like: the environment, immigration, freedom, war and peace. All their shirts are made sweat shop free in the USA.

I received two shirts for review: The Last Fish T-shirt and the Pro-Choice T-shirt. Both captured my eye the first time I saw them on their website. Both with very important messages, and I would be proud to wear them out.

The Pro-Choice shirt is a little more risky to wear out, depending on where you're going. With the topic being of a strong nature, it needs a post of it's own. I feel that it holds a very important message in which I feel strongly about... and I will actually write a separate post regarding it in the near future. A very controversial topic that will get many different views and opinions, but I'm looking forward to taking it on. Keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks!

The Last Fish shirt was my favorite of the two, as I would wear it more often. The shirt was designed with a Native American prophecy in mind, which is usually said to be of Cree origin, but has also been reported as a Hopi prophecy.

"Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned, the last fish has been caught, will we realize that we can't eat money."

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this shirt! The khaki green color looks great on my skin-tone, and the pretty coral-reddish color of the fish pops out nicely. The words are in a solid white, which makes them easy to read. I've received many compliments while wearing this shirt, and it was a real conversation starter.  This is by far my favorite new t-shirt that I own... it's excellent quality, pretty, sports an important message, and holds up well to my crazy laundry habits.

WEIRD (BUT EASY) LITTLE TRICKS THAT MAKE HIGH HEELS FEEL LIKE FLIP-FLOPS

High heels instantly make you look (and feel) taller, thinner and sexier but they can hurt like crazy. So, would you take foot injections to make walking in heels easier? Me neither. Instead, try these simple tricks to strut down the street (or aisle, or nightclub, or bedroom…) without hurting yourself. And look good while you do it

A spritz of extra-hold hairspray on the soles of your heels will guarantee a slip-proof and catwalk-worthy walk every time. Other options: scratch the bottom of your soles with sandpaper or head out to the driveway and start scuffing.


This one comes courtesy of Camilla Morton, author of How to Walk in High Heels and A Year in High Heels: “Head to the supermarket, get a cart and go for a spin. As you stock up on groceries, use the cart for balance while your feet get used to the new high heel.” No department store in sight? When you buy a new pair of heels, walk up and down the stairs 10 times. Stairs are the most difficult thing, so if you can that, you can do everything else.

Could it be that the only thing standing between you and those stilettos is…a number two pencil?! Podiatrists suggest foot exercises to maximise heel comfort. Two to try: picking up pencils with your toes and rolling a ball back and forth under the ball of your foot. Strengthening those muscles will make a long strut feel far less torturous.

And finally, never wear the same pair of stilettos two days in a row. That’s because no two pairs of shoes are exactly the same. Each pair creates its own unique pressure points on your feet which, if worn two days in row, will begin to cause pain and discomfort. So wear, swap and repeat.
